Actemium SAM Electronics: From Challenge to Success with Process Mapping
A renewed momentum for quality management
When André stepped into the role of Quality Manager at ASAM two years ago, process work within the company was not entirely new. A foundation had already been laid, with an emerging structure and vision in place. However, progress had slowed, and engagement had declined after the former Quality Manager unexpectedly had to leave the position.
2c8 Apps had already been introduced to the organization, and a number of processes had been documented, though much of the earlier work had been carried out in Visio. Visio, however, quickly proved far too limited to support the ambitions moving forward. What was needed was a more modern approach – one that could not only map processes but also create real, lasting value for the organization.
The organization had decided to go forward with 2c8 Apps. Through hands-on training and experimentation, André also realized 2c8 Apps was not only a good fit but also key to taking the next step and bringing the original vision to life.
Ambitions beyond compliance
The task ahead was anything but small: integrate three existing standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001) into a unified management system, while also introducing EN 9100 from scratch. Despite this daunting scope, the ambition was clear.
Rather than viewing the management system solely as a compliance requirement, the organization set out to create something more. The goal was to establish a central hub where employees could easily access the information they needed in their daily work. With this vision as a guiding principle, the initiative was launched and gradually built upon.
Workshops and real-time mapping
The project began with workshops and interviews conducted alongside key personnel from across the organization. Here, 2c8 Apps quickly proved its value.
“With 2c8 Apps everything was fast and smooth. We could map processes live during the workshops. This meant that each process reflected how we actually work, while also giving us the chance to optimize them along the way. Already at this stage, we saw the value of getting employees to really think about their processes”

Even complex processes involving multiple systems and departments could be mapped efficiently. Thanks to 2c8’s object orientation, the same building blocks could be reused across different processes.
“By reusing objects across models, we could clearly see logical connections throughout the business, both between departments and between systems,” André continues.
Making standards visible
As more processes were documented, the requirements from each standard were woven directly into the models. Text excerpts were linked to processes, making compliance clearer and easier to follow. On the management system’s start page, the structure of the standards was also made visible to all employees, thereby improving transparency and accessibility.
Ensuring compliance with 2c8 Approve
Another key step was introducing an approval workflow for processes. For EN 9100, this is a critical requirement: no changes can be made to approved processes without proper review. With 2c8 Approve, responsibilities were distributed across the organization, ensuring that the right people reviewed and approved the right processes.
“2c8 Approve has been fantastic because it makes it so easy to engage everyone in the approval process,” André emphasizes.
A central hub for everyday work
Although not all processes have been mapped yet, ASAM has already rolled out the management system to employees.
"We expanded its use beyond just process visualization, connecting a wide range of information directly to the processes. 2c8 has been excellent for this by creating a shared space for everything you need in your daily work, like which systems to use, who is responsible for what, who should be informed, and how tasks should be carried out"

Today, over 500 people at Actemium are set as subscribers to the published material. Usage statistics show a remarkable increase in engagement, and feedback forms have encouraged employees to submit their own suggestions for process improvements.
From challenge to success
The attitude towards process mapping has undergone a dramatic shift. What once felt like a dry compliance task has become a driver of continuous improvement.
“ ‘View it to improve it’ has been the guiding principle throughout this journey. By making our processes visible, it’s become crystal clear where bottlenecks and unnecessary steps exist”, André reflects.
This journey shows how what first seemed like an overwhelming requirement can become an opportunity. By bringing together standards, processes, information, and employees into a single system, ASAM has not only simplified quality management but has also created a shared platform for development and improvement.
And perhaps most importantly: engagement is now a part of everyday work. And this is only the beginning.
