Another way to visualize responsibilities for sub-processes besides using our traditional process model, is to let the flow wander between different swimlanes that represent the responsibility.
In swimlane models you make the responsibilities clear by using swimlanes, with activities flowing between them. The swimlanes correspond to an organizational unit, position or role as shown in the example above. The role performs all the activities appointed to its swimlane.
Swimlane models are, for example, used to visualize and clarify how handoffs and responsibilities are handled.
